Chapter 338 Delaying time
Chapter 338 Delaying time
"Aunt Ping, I've prepared the side dishes. Could you stir-fry them for me and pack them in a lunchbox with the beef?"
"it is good."
Aunt Ping glanced at Old Mrs. Gu on the sofa out of the corner of her eye, then immediately turned and went into the kitchen.
Time ticked by, and Ruolan, sitting on the sofa, felt increasingly uncomfortable. She wanted to move, but was afraid that Old Madam Gu would notice her unease, so she remained obediently still.

The landline phone next to the sofa rang, startling Ruolan, who was sitting on the sofa. She instinctively looked at Old Mrs. Gu opposite her.
"Was that Yin Shen calling back?" Old Mrs. Gu asked.
Ruolan shook her head. "I'm not quite sure."
The phone rang, and Aunt Xue, who was behind the sofa, immediately came to the phone and picked it up.
"Aunt Xue?" Gu Yinshen asked from the other end of the phone.
Upon hearing this, Aunt Xue's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, immediately settled down. She nodded in agreement, "Yes, sir."
"Was something the matter that kept you on the phone?" Gu Yinshen asked.
Aunt Xue glanced instinctively in the direction of Old Mrs. Gu, stammering, unsure of how to begin.
The phone kept ringing, and Gu Yinshen guessed something was wrong. He grabbed his coat and strode out.
"Who came to the house?"
"Ah."
"Where is Ruolan? Has anything happened to her?"
"It's the old lady. She's sitting on the sofa with you. She'll be going to the company with you to bring you lunch in a little while."
"Bring me food? Who asked you to?"
"Old lady."
Aunt Xue was terrified as she spoke. The old lady beside her was watching her intently, and Aunt Xue was afraid that she might say something that would displease Old Madam Gu and cause her to yell at her again.
Gu Yinshen on the other end of the phone roughly understood what was going on, and instructed Aunt Xue on the other end, "I'm on my way back now, I'll be there in about twenty minutes. If anything major happens in the meantime, be sure to call me immediately. Remember, the lady of the house is Ruolan. If she tries to interfere in anything, just kick her out and say it was my request."
Aunt Xue glanced at Old Madam Gu and nodded, saying, "Okay, I understand."
After hanging up the phone, Aunt Xue hesitated about how to start the conversation.
"Was it Yin Shen who called?" Ruolan asked first.
Aunt Xue nodded, but she hesitated inwardly, wondering whether she should tell her that Gu Yinshen would be home soon.
"What's wrong? Is there something you can't tell me?" Old Mrs. Gu asked.
"No, no," Aunt Xue retorted.
Seeing her evasive answer, Old Mrs. Gu spoke again, "What is that?"
Ruolan could tell that Aunt Xue had something she couldn't say, so she quickly spoke up to send her away, "Look at me, I'm so confused. You've been here for so long and I haven't even poured you a cup of tea. Aunt Xue, come quickly and make a cup of tea in the kitchen."
The pressure on Aunt Xue instantly eased upon receiving the arrangement, and she immediately replied, "Okay, I'll go right away."
She dashed off to the kitchen.
Aunt Ping just saw her answering the phone inside, and then she saw her being questioned by Old Mrs. Gu.
"Aunt Xue, did Mr. Gang call back to say what it was about?"
“We called Mr. Gu then, but he didn’t answer. After we finished our work, we saw so many missed calls, so we called back to ask. We learned that Mrs. Gu had arrived, and he was worried, and that Mr. Gu was already on his way back,” Aunt Xue explained.
Aunt Ping looked at the boxed lunch that had already been prepared in front of her and asked, "Then Madam doesn't need to go to the company with Old Madam Gu?"
"Yes. But I didn't know if I could tell Grandma Gu about this, so I couldn't say anything when she pressed me for details." Aunt Xue finished speaking and looked outside.
Right now, it's just Ruolan and Grandma Gu at the sofa in the living room. If anything happens, they won't have time to go over.
"You make the tea first, I'll go over and keep an eye on things," Aunt Ping said.
They need someone to stay there and watch over them.
“Okay, go ahead,” Aunt Xue replied.
Aunt Ping came out of the kitchen and heard Old Mrs. Gu speaking to Ruolan.
"How's everything at home lately?"
"Well, it's all good."
"Really good? Nothing unexpected happened?"
Hearing the repeated questioning, Ruolan was somewhat confused. Looking at the probing expression on Old Madam Gu's face, she was even more bewildered.
"Nothing happened," Ruolan replied after a moment's thought.
After all, what Sweetie did was just a child having a tantrum; it wasn't a big deal.
"It's good that nothing's wrong." Grandma Gu muttered, watching Aunt Ping walk towards them with a worried look on her face. She opened the door and asked, "Is lunch for Yin Shen ready?"
Aunt Ping hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "I'm ready."
"Let's go then." Old Mrs. Gu made a move to stand up from the sofa.
"But we're still missing a soup!" Aunt Ping quickly said, afraid that Old Madam Gu would leave the Gu family with Ruolan.
Grandma Gu looked toward the kitchen, but from her vantage point, she couldn't see all the items inside clearly.
How much longer will the soup take?
"Hmm... about half an hour."
Aunt Ping thought for a moment before replying.
According to what Gu Yinshen said when he called Aunt Xue, he should be able to return to the Gu family within half an hour.
Grandma Gu sat back down in her seat. She had to be patient and wait in order to see Gu Yinshen.
Ruolan turned to look at Aunt Ping. She was puzzled because she had clearly made soup in the kitchen early in the morning. According to the time, the soup should have been ready long ago. Why would it still take half an hour?
Thinking about this, Ruolan felt that Aunt Xue and Aunt Ping were hiding something from her, and it was related to the phone call they had just made.
Since Old Mrs. Gu was still sitting in front of them and her gaze was fixed on them, Ruolan suppressed her doubts.
Aunt Xue brewed the tea in the kitchen and carried it out.
"Madam, please have some tea."
The tea was steaming hot; one sip and your tongue would probably go numb.
Grandma Gu finally understood. One person said the soup would take another half hour, while the other made her such hot soup—they were just stalling for time.
What she didn't understand was why they were delaying. Did they not want her to go to the company to find Gu Yinshen, or did they have some other purpose?
Grandma Gu sat up from the sofa, intending to go to the kitchen herself to see if there was any soup that was supposed to be ready in half an hour.
"Madam, where are you going?" Aunt Ping strode forward and blocked Madam Gu's path.
Grandma Gu frowned, looking displeased as she waited for Aunt Ping, who was blocking her way. "Get out of the way!"
“The kitchen is full of grease and smoke, ma’am. Tell me what you need to do, and I’ll help you,” Aunt Ping said.
"Get out of the way!" Old Mrs. Gu said coldly.
