As Xu Su watched, she felt a pang of jealousy and couldn’t resist nitpicking. "You’re wearing sunglasses while driving? Can you even see the road clearly?"

"Worried about that?" Shen Chen paused before taking off his sunglasses and handing them to her. "You try them on. See for yourself."

"They’re a custom model, different from regular sunglasses. You’ll know once you try them."

"Oh." It was hard to refuse his offer, so Xu Su took them and slipped them onto her nose. Her vision immediately darkened.

She rarely wore sunglasses, so she couldn’t really tell the difference. However, the summer sun was incredibly bright, and the glasses felt quite comfortable on her eyes.

"How are they?" Shen Chen asked.

"Perfect for sleeping," Xu Su said as she reclined her seat and yawned. She didn’t stand on ceremony. "I’m going to take a nap and build up my energy for practice this afternoon. Take your time, there’s no rush."

"Go ahead and sleep, then." They stopped at a red light, and Shen Chen turned to look at Xu Su, who had already settled down beside him. He adjusted the air conditioning vent on her side, angling it up a little. "Will you be cold?"

A wave of drowsiness hit Xu Su, and she didn’t want to speak at all. She simply shook her head in reply.

There wasn’t a single jacket in the car, nothing to cover her with if she got cold. Shen Chen touched her hand, then frowned and turned the temperature up a bit.

When Xu Su woke up and groggily opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Shen Chen’s face beside her.

She blinked a few times, and once the situation registered, she shot upright. "Why didn’t you wake me? Are you that dense...?"

The car was parked outside the villa. It was one thing for him not to wake her upon arrival, but he had even reclined his own seat and started resting in the car too.

Shen Chen averted his gaze and sat up straight. "You were sleeping so soundly," he said with a smile. "And we have nothing to do this afternoon, so why would I wake you?"

"..." Xu Su was speechless and didn’t know what to say.

She took off the sunglasses and pulled a small compact from her purse, checking to see if her eye makeup had smudged in her sleep.

The sight of her staring wide-eyed into the mirror made Shen Chen, who was sitting beside her, chuckle.

He laughed so hard his head tilted against the steering wheel. Facing the passenger seat, he asked again, "Xu Su, are you really wearing makeup?"

Xu Su shot him a glance and snapped her compact shut. "What’s so funny? Your sense of humor is really strange."

She glanced at the time and hurried him out of the driver’s seat.

’It’s almost four in the afternoon... I must have slept for at least two hours.’

Once her hands were back on the steering wheel and her foot was on the accelerator, Xu Su couldn’t help but mutter, "It’s all your fault for not waking me up sooner. We wasted so much time."

Shen Chen didn’t mind her complaints in the slightest. He just smiled and said, "What’s the rush? If you want to practice, you’ll have plenty of time."

’He seems to be in a really good mood...’

Xu Su also realized he had a remarkably good temper.

Sometimes, even she thought her own words were infuriating, but he would just smile, never getting angry. His self-control was truly impressive.

Xu Su sighed to herself. ’He’s rich and has such a good temper, while I’m good for nothing but throwing a fit...’

"Didn’t I already tell you?" Shen Chen cut her off, his face darkening. "You saw wrong," he said firmly. "I didn’t kiss anyone."

"That’s not the point..."

That wasn’t what Xu Su wanted to talk about. "The point is," she said, "you were definitely holding that hostess, right?"

"..." Shen Chen was silent for two seconds, his eyes downcast to hide his emotions. "That did happen," he said calmly.

"That’s the issue right there!" Having laid all this groundwork, Xu Su finally got to the point. "After that incident, I haven’t seen a single woman around you. Shen Chen, why did you suddenly start behaving yourself?"

Shen Chen never expected that this was what she was getting at after beating around the bush for so long. Looking at her genuinely confused expression, it was obvious she hadn’t considered any other reason.

’Deep down, she didn’t suspect his ulterior motives at all...’

This realization left Shen Chen unsure whether to feel relieved or angry. A dull ache spread through his chest, prompting him to just say it outright. "What other reason could there be? It’s because of you, of course."

"Watch the road! Drive properly!" She hadn’t taken her foot off the accelerator, and they were on a curve. The car nearly crashed into the guardrail. It was only because Shen Chen leaned over and put his hand on the steering wheel that he managed to correct their path.

Xu Su was stunned for only a couple of seconds before his reminder snapped her back to reality. She quickly calmed down, her eyes fixed forward as she focused on driving.

’Still, his words echoed in her mind...’

"Don’t overthink it," Shen Chen said, releasing the wheel and settling back into his seat. He started fabricating an explanation. "I just thought what you said that time was pretty reasonable. So, that counts as being because of you, right?"

Xu Su tried to recall what she had said during their first meeting...

But she had drunk so much that night she’d blacked out. She couldn’t even remember kissing Zhou Mochen, so how was she supposed to remember anything she’d said to Shen Chen?

She only vaguely remembered that her words hadn’t been very nice; it seemed every sentence was designed to piss him off.

She was silent for a long while. Shen Chen could clearly tell what was going on. He clicked his tongue. "You don’t even remember what you said?"

After a moment, he added, "Anyway, I decided to be a better person so that the girl I like in the future won’t look down on me."

"You actually have that kind of self-awareness?" It was like Xu Su didn’t even recognize him anymore. "Are you sure it isn’t because you’re... not physically up to the task anymore?" she asked disbelievingly.

The moment the words left her mouth, the car fell silent.

Shen Chen was silent for a long while, wondering if he had misheard or misunderstood her. Frowning, he looked at her and asked, "What is that supposed to mean?"
