Chapter 178 Leisure
Chapter 178 Leisure
After a period of focused writing, Sylvie leaned back in her chair and stretched. "So, we're done, right?"
She was responsible for writing most of the content, so it's understandable that she felt exhausted.
Irina glanced at the report and nodded in approval. "That's right, it's very comprehensive. We've covered the analysis, the map findings, and our conclusions."
Although Irina initially intended to write it herself, her handwriting and Morse's handwriting were almost illegible.
"Can you understand it?" When Morse asked this question, Sylvie looked at him with an expression that said, "How dare you ask me this question with such handwriting?"
"..."
"Okay, okay, my bad." Morse waved his hand, knowing his handwriting wasn't very good.
It wasn't actually that bad... it's just that Sylvie's handwriting was neater, at least that's what he thought. But Sylvie made a great contribution to the teaching assistants who reviewed the papers.
“Let’s go give the report to the professor; we’ve covered everything that’s necessary,” Irina announced, picking up the report. However, the other two didn’t follow her.
"Huh? What are you waiting for?"
Morseland raised an eyebrow and replied, "Why do we all have to go? You can submit it yourself; our names are already on the report." His tone was somewhat nonchalant.
"You! You're going to let me go alone?"
“Are you a child? You can go by yourself. It’s not like you need someone to accompany you,” Morse retorted.
Irina considered his suggestion and realized the problem with it. After a brief pause, she nodded in agreement. "Okay, I'll go by myself. I thought we could grab something to eat together afterwards, but it seems that was just wishful thinking on my part."
"It's okay, I'll eat at the cafeteria anyway. Besides, you don't go to the cafeteria most of the time."
"How did you know?"
Everyone knows you're a picky eater.
"……Really?"
"Yeah, don't you remember what you did when someone gave you food in the dungeon last time?"
"..."
Irina's expression suddenly turned somewhat awkward as she recalled the incident. She muttered, "I just have different tastes."
“I know, that’s why I said that.”
"What happened in the dungeon?" Sylvie asked innocently.
“Um, this…” Morse had barely started speaking when Irina quickly interrupted him, a hint of embarrassment on her face.
“It’s nothing, just a small matter. I’m going to submit the report.” Irina hurriedly interjected, standing up and leaving the soundproof room in the library to prevent Morse from revealing any more details.
Before she left, she gave Morse a threatening look, to which Morse simply shrugged.
Sylvie was curious, but she didn't press him further. She looked at Morse and waited for his explanation.
“This is not something I should reveal,” Morse replied coldly.
"..."
Sylvie was puzzled by his words, but she didn't ask any further questions.
'This isn't a state secret.'
She wondered to herself, but held back, knowing Morse wouldn't tell her no matter what. She was curious, but she understood that pressing him would only make the atmosphere more awkward.
When it was just the two of them left, Sylvie broke the silence.
"Since you have time now, I'd like to ask you something."
"About the battle?" Morse asked.
"Yes."
Morse considered for a moment, then said, "Let me see your schedule first, and we can find a time that suits both of us."
Sylvie opened her calendar on her watch, which neatly listed her classes, study times, and other schedules. She handed it to him without hesitation.
Seeing this, his eyes widened slightly. Everything was planned in great detail, and he realized how dangerous it would be if the people targeting her discovered this information.
“You shouldn’t trust people so easily,” he said softly, glancing at his schedule and mentally noting the dates.
Although his voice was low, Sylvie could see the change in his emotions. She saw a hint of worry.
Sylvie shrugged. "I don't trust everyone that much."
Morse raised an eyebrow and glanced at her. "Then why did you show me this?"
“Because I trust you,” Sylvie replied simply, her gaze meeting his. However, when their eyes met, she saw a hint of doubt in his eyes.
Then she realized what she had just said, and her face instantly turned bright red.
"..."
Morse was still staring at her, a hint of doubt in his eyes. She realized she had made a mistake.
She couldn't possibly say, "I've been watching you, and I can see how you feel. You're not the kind of person who would hurt others casually."
She became even more embarrassed and hurriedly made an excuse.
"I...we're teammates now, right? Shouldn't I trust you?"
I feel safe with you.
She couldn't bring herself to say those words because it was too embarrassing.
Morse's expression remained inscrutable, his suspicion evident. Sylvie felt the need to explain further, so she stammered out a bunch of excuses: "I... I mean, I can't find anyone else to help me."
Morse's gaze remained unwavering as Sylvie offered her explanation.
'Aren't all your friends melee fighters?' He wanted to ask, but didn't.
After a while, he nodded. "Okay, no need for so much explanation, I understand."
Sylvie breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if a long time had passed, before Morse returned her schedule to her.
Morse pointed out the free time in her schedule. “I won’t push you too hard at first; we can train during this time,” he said, pointing to two two-hour sessions twice a week.
Sylvie nodded, her heart filled with gratitude. "Thank you for helping me."
Morse nodded. “It’s nothing. But remember, physical training is important. Do some physical training with your friends when you have time. If I remember correctly, they are both melee fighters and should know how to train themselves. You need to improve your strength and endurance while improving your combat skills. I noticed when we were walking that you neglected physical training.”
Sylvie lowered her head, knowing this herself. Danielle and Molly often asked her to train with them, but she refused because it reminded her of her trauma. But now she was determined to face these difficulties head-on, knowing she had to improve her physical fitness.
“You’re right,” Sylvie admitted, her voice filled with determination and hesitation. “I will try my best to train, but… some things are difficult for me.”
Morse was silent for a moment, realizing he was the first to reopen her wounds. He nodded and said softly, "It's okay, at least you took the first step. That in itself is progress."
"……Thanks."
"Great, see you at the club tomorrow."
"Oh, right...we have a meeting..."
She had completely forgotten about it.
She waved goodbye as he left. "Take care."
"You too."
And so, the two returned to their respective dormitories.
......
"Tsk, bastard."
Irina muttered under her breath as she left the room, annoyed by Morse's nonchalant attitude.
She immediately went to the professor's office to submit her paper, trying to avoid any contact with that jerk who always annoyed her.
As she walked toward her room, she was still sulking when suddenly her watch vibrated, indicating a message and a group chat notification.
Julia: Hey everyone... I'm planning to meet at our usual spot. Are you coming? (●'?'●)
Then, she added some emojis to emphasize the friendly nature of the invitation.
[Julia: ? ? Same as always, hamburgers and game night. How about it?]
Upon seeing the typo, Irina couldn't help but shake her head.
Alice: I'm not coming, I'm busy. Also, please type correctly, it's annoying to read.
Julia: I'm not writing a thesis.
Alice: It's okay, just write it correctly.
Upon seeing these messages, she naturally smiled. She had been working hard to cope with the tasks since the holiday ended.
She doesn't like playing games most of the time because she can't play them at home. Her mother always forbids her from touching them... so naturally she's not interested in the idea.
Alice: A new game has been released, and it's pretty good. It's called "Spirit Realm," and it connects to our smartwatches so we can play it anytime, anywhere.
Julia: ??? Imagine an open-world game where you can explore different areas, the game adjusts based on your location, and there are cool quests and challenges. And you can play without any preparation.
Seeing these messages piqued her interest. After all, games that can connect to smartwatches are not common.
[Ethan: That sounds interesting, so how do we play?]
Julia: Yes, you'll need to order special equipment.
Ethan: You said we don't need anything.
Julia: ? It's okay, I've already ordered the equipment, it's in my room.
[Ethan: Yeah, I don't play games much, but I need something to distract me. I'll join in.]
Julia: Is there anyone else?
Irina: I'll do it.
As she hummed a cheerful tune, Irina nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips. She browsed her smartwatch, her fingers flying across the screen, searching for the game "Spirit Realm."
The prospect of exploring different fields and participating in tasks attracted her, offering her an opportunity to escape the pressure of studying and recent setbacks.
She recently read an article about how video games can improve spatial awareness and motor reflexes, which has been very helpful to her. So, she's actually improving herself while relaxing.
"Yes."
She nodded to her perfect reasoning, a smile on her face.
......
"Ha ha……"
despair!despair!despair!
Heavy breathing echoed under the night sky.
"Don't come any closer..."
Her desperate plea pierced the eerie silence; her eyes darted around, and anxiety consumed her.
The dim yellow light of the streetlights cast long shadows, bringing an ominous premonition.
"No, no, no..."
She tried to move her injured leg, but felt unable to.
She scanned her surroundings, her gaze nervously sweeping through the shadows.
The rustling leaves seemed to mimic the whispers of demons, intensifying her anxiety. The cold wind carried a supernatural whisper, while the pattering continued like a threatening heartbeat.
"Why? Why did you do this...?"
Just as she desperately turned to run away, the dark figure suddenly pounced on her, blocking out the last ray of light in her eyes.
"what--!"
Her vision was suddenly enveloped in darkness, and a chilling scream pierced the night sky, the sound suppressed by an invisible force.
"Uh!"
The streetlights flickered, responding to the evil unfolding in the dark corners of the night, her body convulsing beneath the sky.
"I need more, I want more..."
In the cold wind, a pair of scarlet eyes opened, creating an eerie atmosphere, while the body became limp and powerless.
