Chapter 30, Britain: Joining the Team
Chapter 30, Britain: Joining the Team
The next morning at 5:30 in the UK~
Inside the British mansion purchased by the Gangfeng family, Ming sat alone on the bed, flipping through a British textbook with boredom.
Because he couldn't die and always had nightmares when he slept, Ming often passed the time by reading books, which he found quite boring. The main reason was that there weren't many mobile games or online videos available at that time; reading was the only way to pass the time.
"Ring ring ring! Ring ring ring! Ring ring ring—" A somewhat noisy alarm clock rang out, breaking the quiet atmosphere.
Ming reached out and turned off the alarm clock, glancing at the time—it was only 5:30. He stretched, put down his books, and casually got out of bed.
"Ha~ According to that receptionist I don't like, SSS is the time to join the team a little later, right? Okay, I'll take a shower first, then make breakfast, and then I can go there to report for duty."
Ming walked into the bathroom, gently turned on the showerhead, letting the hot water cascade down like a waterfall, then closed his eyes, fully enjoying this moment of tranquility and relaxation.
The warm water gently caressed my skin, as if taking away all fatigue and stress, bringing a moment of tranquility for both body and mind. Then I put on my suit, glasses, and gloves and walked out of the bathroom.
After leaving the bathroom, Ming dressed and went to the kitchen. He skillfully cracked the eggs into a pan, gently stirred them, and then arranged the golden-brown, crispy bread slices on a plate. Finally, he brewed a cup of rich coffee with the coffee powder he had casually taken from Möbius and slowly drank it.
"Strange? Why is it sweet? Oh well, I don't usually mind sweets anyway," Ming remarked after finishing his coffee.
After finishing breakfast, Ming tidied up his dishes, picked up his schoolbag, and stepped out of the house. Sunlight streamed down his face as he took a deep breath of the fresh air, savoring the beauty of the morning. The streets were already bustling with cars, and everything seemed so peaceful and relaxed.
A short while later, Ming arrived at the gate of the SSS headquarters and went inside. As soon as he entered, he was stopped by a very respectful voice.
"Oh~ Isn't this Lady Klein?" A somewhat displeased, obsequious voice called out to him. Turning his head, he saw Kyles Doyle, who came out to greet him with a servile expression.
"You're here so early! No wonder you're Investigator Möbius's assistant. Your perseverance is extraordinary, something we ordinary folks who can only work overtime can't even dream of." Doyle kept praising him, even though he had been mocking Ming for having no connections just yesterday.
Ming stopped and looked at Doyle coldly. "What do you want?"
Doyle smiled obsequiously, "It's nothing, I just wanted to say hello to Lord Klein."
Ming snorted, "Hmph, if there's nothing else, please move aside. I need to go inside and wait for my turn."
Ming bypassed Kells Doyle and walked straight into the SSS headquarters' stairwell without even turning his head.
Based on what happened yesterday, Ming could see that Doyle was a British person with a very rigid class mentality. He wouldn't despise an individual, but he wouldn't have any goodwill towards ordinary people without a background. Someone like Ming, who had a strong sense of equality in his previous life, would never associate with such a person.
Ming walked slowly down the corridor, eventually reaching an elevator. He pressed the button for the training room on the basement level and waited quietly for the elevator to descend.
The elevator doors opened, and Ming stepped out into the training room. Just as he stepped out, two or three girls who were training appeared before him.
In this scene, three distinctive young women can be seen. The girl with short red hair and the girl with a black ponytail are engaged in a fierce sword duel. Their swords gleam with a cold light, clashing and flying through the air with crisp, clear sounds. The red-haired girl is agile and her swordsmanship is sharp; while the black-haired girl appears calm and powerful, each strike imbued with profound inner strength.
Meanwhile, a long-haired blue-haired girl sat quietly to the side, her eyes calm and deep, as if deep in thought. Her hair swayed gently in the breeze, giving off a sense of tranquility. Although she wasn't participating in the swordplay competition, her presence was impossible to ignore.
"Fairdo! You're swinging so fast, are you trying to kill me?!" The black-haired girl shouted at the red-haired girl while steadily blocking the attack.
"It's just that you're not strong enough to resist, Lifala. Don't blame your weakness on my strength!" The red-haired girl retorted immediately upon hearing the black-haired girl's sarcastic remark, and swung her sword forward fiercely.
"Oh dear~ Can you two be a little more ladylike? You're being a bit rude~" The blue-haired girl sitting next to them said, covering her face.
"Hey! You're the one who really likes this kind of combat training, Horim! Don't pretend. Even if you were transferred to a different unit, you, the oldest one, wouldn't have a chance to shine!" Fildo and Lifara complained in unison.
Ming stood at the door, quietly watching their interaction, not knowing what to say, just staring blankly.
Just then, Lifara, who was engaged in a fierce battle with the red-haired girl, suddenly noticed something. She turned her head sharply and her gaze fell on Ming, who was leaning against the door eating melon seeds.
Lifara froze instinctively, just in time for Fildo to seize the opportunity and thrust out a lightsaber. She barely managed to dodge, but a small cut was still made in her chest.
"Ouch! That hurts! Fildo, go easy on me!" Lifara cried out in pain.
"Hehe, who told you to be spacing out just now!" Fildo laughed smugly.
"It's all because I saw someone watching the show at the door!" Lifara glared at Ming.
Ming, realizing he'd been caught in the act, was slightly taken aback. He was about to go over and say hello when the three of them dropped their weapons and ran toward him at an even faster pace.
"Hello, are you the instructor or a new teammate? My name is Lifara, please take care of me from now on!" Lifara smiled and extended her hand to Ming, but Ming's expression was extremely indifferent, and he did not extend his hand in return.
"Wow, it's a male player!" Fildo exclaimed in surprise as she looked at the living Ming in front of her. "And he's even handsome! That's really rare. He just doesn't look like a British person." Horim appeared calm on the surface, but in reality, he was already incredibly excited by Ming's stunning appearance behind the blindfold.
"Oh? What do you mean?" Ming asked, hearing Horalim's analysis.
“Because of the characteristics,” Haralim replied, though his hands were already trembling involuntarily. “Your suit is indeed quite common in England, but the eye patch and the English accent, which, although it looks fluent, is actually quite obviously not British, which is obvious from the way you hear it.”
“I see.” Ming nodded thoughtfully. “I am Japanese. The main reason I came here is because of my desire to join the military.” His tone remained indifferent.
Lifala smiled warmly and said, "Anyway, welcome to our team! I'm sure you'll surprise us!"
Fierdo laughed and chimed in, "Yes, yes, handsome guys always make people feel happy!"
Horalim blushed, lowered his head, and said softly, "I also look forward to working with you."
"It's quite unexpected to see a handsome guy like you join the SSS, though we were only recently transferred here ourselves," Lifara said, looking at Ming's pale face.
"What do you mean?" Ming asked, somewhat puzzled, after hearing the exclamation.
"Uh! Isn't this common sense? In general, according to statistics in Britain, women are much more suited to magic than men. The strongest magician right now is also a woman... Could it be that you got in through connections, handsome?" Lifara said half-jokingly.
Hearing the girl's teasing, Ming rested his chin on his hand as if deep in thought. "Uh... if you're talking about getting in through connections... I guess you could say that, but my own abilities aren't bad either."
"Haha, that's great!" Lifara laughed and patted Ming on the shoulder. "From now on, we're teammates. Don't hesitate to ask me for help if you have any problems!"
Ming nodded slightly, seemingly a little at a loss for words in the face of this enthusiastic girl.
At this moment, Fildo interjected, "Lifara, don't be so friendly with everyone!" Then she turned to look at Horarim at the back, "You too! Don't just stand there and stop walking when you see a man, can you walk a little faster!"
"Damn it! It's none of your business, you stupid gorilla!" Horalim and Lifara exclaimed at the same time. "What? You dare call me a stupid gorilla! You two infatuated fools!" Fildor immediately retorted.
"What? You dare to call us two infatuated girls? You stupid gorilla, what do you mean by that!" After saying that, the three of them started arguing with each other.
Upon hearing this, Ming simply shook his head in boredom and remarked with a sigh:
"I have to admit, Britain is really open-minded. If it were Japan, Sawa would be considered extremely tactful." As he said this, a hint of longing appeared in Ming's eyes.
A man wandered casually through the SSS training room. In Ming's eyes, although the equipment here was not as good as the Möbius Laboratory with its dazzling array of mechanical scalpels, it was still quite good. He thought he could probably find a way to become stronger here.
Zaiming felt his ears were about to be deafened by Horalim and Lifara's voices. He couldn't stand their constant bombardment any longer, so he quickly slipped into the bathroom. He thought, if only he could escape those two, even just for a little while!
Unexpectedly, as soon as he entered, he heard another commotion outside. It turned out the instructors and other new recruits were calling roll. Zaiming inwardly groaned: Why am I so unlucky?
Fortunately, Horalim and Lifara were too busy greeting and chatting with others to pay attention to Zaiming. They temporarily forgot about him. So, Zaiming swaggered out of the restroom, ignored, and silently waited until he was finally called in last. He only breathed a sigh of relief when the instructor announced the end of the break.
Because today was the day for the news report, there was nothing special about it. The training was just a simple registration with the instructor, and then the class was dismissed. Ming also took this opportunity to sneak away.
The only thing worth mentioning is that during registration, the instructor read out the name Möbius had registered for Ming, Klein, which made Ming pause for several seconds before raising his hand to answer.
Note: Actually, Ming wasn't the only boy among the SSS freshmen, but they were all rather unattractive. The only redeeming quality of them was that they all looked stronger than Ming, who had pale skin.
