Chapter 410 - 403: Just Wait for the Good News

Outside the door, Chloe Grant pressed her ear to the wood, listening to the phone call inside. When she heard what Cedric Grant said, she frantically glanced at Jean Jarvis, who was also eavesdropping. Exasperated, Chloe silently mouthed, "Mom."

Jean Jarvis gestured for her to be patient. Only after hearing Cedric Grant say, "Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll head over first thing tomorrow morning. Goodbye, Brother Quinn," did she beckon to her daughter. The two of them tiptoed away from the study door.

Once they were in Chloe Grant’s room, Jean Jarvis had barely closed the door before Chloe stomped her foot and complained, "Mom, did you hear Dad? Even now, he’s still trying to explain? How could he possibly explain? I think he’s lost his mind! Why is he so fixated on Clara Grant?!"

Jean Jarvis hadn’t expected Cedric Grant to tell Theodore Quinn it was all a misunderstanding, either. ’A misunderstanding? How could it possibly be a misunderstanding? There was a paternity test. What’s there to misunderstand?’

’Surely he isn’t going to claim the paternity test was fake, that Chloe and I doctored it, and then pin all the blame on us?’

Seeing her mother remain silent, Chloe grew anxious and tugged on her arm. "Mom, say something! I’m telling you, anyone can marry Seth Quinn, but Clara Grant absolutely cannot! It’s bad enough that after I marry Miles, I’d have to call her ’Sister-in-law,’ obey her every command, and live my whole life under her thumb."

"Besides, if she really does marry Seth Quinn, it’s doubtful I’ll be able to marry Miles at all. Think about it! She and I are mortal enemies. She’ll do everything in her power to stop me from marrying Miles!"

"And another thing! If she marries Seth Quinn, she’ll be the lady of Aegis Pictures! With her there, what chance will I have? I’ll probably never get off the industry blacklist!"

The more Chloe spoke, the more terrified she became. Clara marrying Seth Quinn would be disastrous for her. ’No, I can’t let her get what she wants and marry him!’

"Mom, Mom, you have to think of something! What on earth are we going to do?"

At this, Jean Jarvis actually grew calm. She looked up at her frantic daughter and soothed, "Chloe, don’t you worry. Whatever your father plans to tell the Quinn family tomorrow, I’ll find a way to deal with it. Rest assured, I won’t let Clara Grant get what she wants!"

Seeing her mother’s confident and strategic expression, Chloe asked, both relieved and curious, "So, Mom, what’s your plan?"

Jean Jarvis patted her hand and smiled lovingly. "You don’t need to worry about that. Just wait for the good news."

Chloe Grant nodded and didn’t press the matter.

Jean Jarvis took another careful look at the side of Chloe’s face that had been slapped. It wasn’t very swollen, but a distinct bruise was forming at the corner of her mouth.

Her heart ached, and tears welled in her eyes. "How could he hit you so hard! Chloe, you wait here. Mom will get you an ice pack."

Chloe Grant nodded and said sweetly, "Thanks, Mom."
